For me the trip to Vinh, Hồ Chí Minh’s hometown was a bit of a bust. Tourism in the city is underdeveloped and Google yielded nothing but misleading and incorrect information when I searched for tours or tour guides. I asked at my hotel and they were unable to give me any tour information or leads, and seemed more interested in their short time rentals, and possibly the discreet provision of personal services, with a soldiers’ barracks just up the road I can’t say I blame them, but that didn’t help me with two days to kill.
The local people were very friendly, I was constantly greeted as I walked around town- even by soldiers on guard duty, and several times people stopped to talk and I had numerous requests for selfies from locals wanting a photo with me; making me think that not many foreigners pass through.
