This is the third of three pages covering a visit to Angkor Thom on the same day, the other two are: Angkor Thom South Side and Baphuon
After visiting Baphuon we crossed over to the Angkor Thom Royal Square where a celebration for Bon Om Touk (Water Festival) was in full swing. The festival marks the end of the wet season and also the turning of the water flow into Tonlee Sap due to lowering river levels further downstream to an outflow. After catching our breath and having some fresh steamed corn on the cob we walked over to the remnants of Prasat Suor Prat - ប្រាសាទស៊ូរព្រាត. The towers were built sometime in the 13th century and, despite much speculation, no one is quite sure what their function was. They are strung out in line opposite the Terrace of the Elephants -ព្រះពន្លាជល់ដំរី and the now long vanished wooden Royal Palace where many state ceremonies were held.
