Phanom Rung Historical Park - บ้านยายแย้ม The main reason for me to go to Buri Ram was to visit Phanom Rung, just under 65km SW away from where I was staying. It is reputed as the best preserved (restored) Khmer Empire temple complex in Thailand. The complex  was built between the 10th to the 13th centuries CE, as a Hindu Shrine dedicated to the god Shiva, on the caldera of an extinct volcano. See Wikipedia, the Phnom Rung official site and Oriental Architecture for more detailed information.
