Eight hours or so on the train from Vinh to Huế, punctuated by a few stops, cigarettes outside the seating area and train staff moving through the train selling fresh steamed sweet corn (not bad, needs salt), drinks, cakes and proper food (limited in range and taste, but ok). The big plus for me over traveling by bus is that you have greater freedom of movement in the train.
Next day I did a bit of this and that in the morning and quite a lot of neither. I waited until mid afternoon before walking from the hotel to Kinh thành (The Imperial Citidel). This site is so large and there’s so much to see that even though this was my third visit I’m yet to see everything Kinh thành has to offer, despite each time spending several hours there.
