When we pulled into the car park, just after 16:30, we came across a party, that had obviously started in the early morning, in a rotunda adjacent to the car park. An open door 4 wheel drive close to the party was the source of the doof, doof, music we could hear before we'd actually turned in.
The approach to this site was across a rickety bamboo bridge and through fields of noticeably high quality ripening rice. I was told that the strain is "khao kai noy", which is used to make premium Beerlao Gold. After climbing over a stile we got to the jars. Much smaller than sites 1 and 2, this is the least visited of the three main jar sites, but well worth going to. The light was failing fast but I think I managed to get some good shots.
After finishing for the day I was having dinner at one of the restaurants in town and saw one of the guys from the boat trip from Ban Huay Xai to Luang Prabang walking past, he’d arrived that day, and of course he was staying at the same guest house I was.
