I spent a while downloading and converting the photos, from the morning at Wat Siphoutthabath and then went walkabout. Evidence of preparation for the nigh-time parade was everywhere, when I made it to the Mekong River side I could see heua fai (krathongs- offerings to the river spirits) for sale along the road. In between the heua fai stalls nestled into a bend in the footpath was a group of musicians having a late afternoon practice. Then it was up to Vat Phonxay where they were setting out their lanterns for the night, before returning to the Mekong for sunset.
I found a table and seat next to the road where the parade would pass. Later, I took a lot of photos as the parade progressed through town but wasn’t happy with them: my camera (or the user) only handles low light well in certain situations. After the parade I went just around the corner to Wat Pa Phai - วัดป่าไผ่) and then via to Wat Siphoutthabath to my guesthouse.
